The inaugural edition of the Summer Seminar “Catholicity and the Arts” is devoted to a close reading and discussion of G.K. Chesterton’s 1908 masterpiece, Orthodoxy. Considered a 20th century classic of Christian apologetics, Chesterton’s Orthodoxy defies simple classifications: it is a philosophical and theological romance through which the existential and religious adventure of Chesterton shines with his characteristic honesty, depth, and wit.
Dr. Rodney Howsare (Professor of Theology, DeSales University, Allentown, PA; as of Fall 2025, Professor of Theology, St. Vincent de Paul Seminary in Boynton Beach) will lead the seminar together with Dr. Marco Stango (Associate Professor of Philosophy, St. Bernard’s School of Theology and Ministry, Rochester, NY; Director of the St. Kateri Institute, Williamstown, MA).
The seminar will take place in Williamstown, MA over three days, from Saturday, May 24th to Monday, May 26th. The seminar meets every day from 3 pm to 6 pm and then over dinner at 6:30 pm (dinners will be offered by the St. Kateri Institute). More details will be provided to the applicants who are selected.
Copies of Chesterton’s Orthodoxy will be provided.
Applications are open to all college students. There are seven spots available. Applications close on May 20th. Please apply using the Google Form linked here.
